The contract was signed in the Croatian Chamber of Economy by the Minister of Justice Vesna Skare Ozbolt and the President of Judge's Web Drazen Komarica
For the last 16 months, the project was implemented as part of the informatization of judiciary and within the activities pertaining to the entire judicial reform.
The purpose of the project is to assist judges in making court decisions, ensure increased transparency of the functioning of judicial bodies and make judiciary closer to citizens via a single database available on the internet.
The web address contains information on the courts and judges which should be completed by the end of June (judges' biographies, judicial practice, court rulings and other decisions) and it already contains over 2,000 pages listing expert witnesses and court interpreters
The Minister Skare Ozbolt did not hide her satisfaction with the project, calling it one more incentive in the judicial reform mosaic, this time relating to the creation of an information-communication infrastructure and the introduction of an automated operation system.
She pointed out that this year her ministry secured the largest ever budget for judicial reform, 76 million kuna, for large projects like the one concerning the opening of the digital land registry, and like the Judge's Web project today.
The Minister also announced new projects whose purpose is a simpler registration of business entities, informatization of court registries and establishment of the integrated information system and integrated internet and intranet networks for judicial bodies.
Until the end of this year, she says, around 50 judicial bodies should be connected by the network and around 10,000 court decisions published on the internet.
Mr. Komarica also expressed his satisfaction with the signed contract, pointing out that this is primarily the result of a partnership between the non-governmental sector and the Government, interested in opening up to its citizens and solving social problems.
The project Judge's Web is worth around 2.9 million euro financed by donations of the governments of Norway, Netherlands, OSCE and USA.
The Ambassador of the Kingdom of Norway, which is the project's largest donor, Mr. Knut Toraasen, was present at the signing of the contract and earmarked the project as significant for the development of Croatia and its approximation to EU and NATO.
